Please clarify if it is to code (or maybe exempted from the code) not to support FMC from a drop-in light fixture to a terminal box not exceeding 6ft.

Yes it is allowed, see the exceptions to 348.30(A)

Exception No. 3: Lengths not exceeding 1.8 m (6 ft) from a luminaire terminal connection for tap connections to luminaires as permitted in 410.117(C).

Pay attention to which end of the spiral is on the outside, and place it in the upper connector.

Good tip Larry unless you use the screw in connectors. If I had a nickel for every flex whip I have seen unraveled at a j-box in a ceiling. I'd have to spend the rest of my life counting nickels.

I've yet to see one unravel. :-?
