Wanted to say thank you all the suggestions. I'm pleased with how it turned out.
Had four boxes to replace. Three of them I installed a metal box, centered it with some broken pieces of the old box, and loaded the gap with construction adhesive. Today went back to see how they set up and to my suprise, they were rock (brick?) solid. Construction adhesive = Success
The fourth box hole was to big to fill with adhesive, so I tried the spray foam. My concern here was the foam pushing the box out of the wall. So I wedged some brick debris in, hoping that it would hold till the foam cured. Then I stuck the nozzle in, and sprayed the foam as far back as I could and moved it toward the front of the box. Checking it today, I was sure if I had any problems it would be this box. There were none. The box was as secure as the adhesive ones. I trimmed the excess, installed receptacle and cover. Spray foam = Success
If I have to do it again, I was just stick with the foam. Quicker to cure and not as messy.
Thanks again to all for the suggestions.
