Food trailer renovation

Got a call to give an estimate on adding additional electrical to an existing food/ concession trailer.

Existing is wired in NM cable ( concealed behind walls and ceiling) , wiring from outside power inlet box is 6/4SO cord also concealed. 50 amp inlet.

It appears to have been manufactured and not a DIY project.

Apparently it didn’t have to be wired to any particular code when it left the factory.

There will be about 10K watts of total load if everything runs simultaneously.

My suggestion to the owner is a generator with 12K watt running capacity.

Would a generator with peak output of 15KW cause an issue with the inlet box size ?

The last one I worked on, was built in Mexico, had an Eaton panel with Square D QO breakers! They just strung thhn through the walls, and cut a hole out with no bushing in the metal wall, then used a backless plastic wiremold box to mount the receptacles.

The ones Eaton makes to fit QO? Or some resourcefulness necessary?
It was an Eaton box, but the buss was QO! Looked factory. They must do that in Mexico! It was sitting at the gas station down the street from you for a while, but now it’s behind the Flea market in Clayton. I ripped that panel out, and put on in with more spaces. Google photos loses my pictures, but I will try to find it.

I wonder if in future code cycles there will be an article that addresses concession trucks and trailers?

This one looked at has more equipment than a small commercial kitchen.
- Pizza oven
- Microwave
- Full hood suppression system
- A/C
-Heat
- Commercial type refrigerator
- 60”LP griddle
- Snow cone machine
-Countertop Panini press
- (4)

I talked with a local inspector and he said there is nothing he can enforce when it comes to them.

The health department has their inspections but that’s as far as it goes.

Does the code have sections for carnivals and other temporary installations?
