For 277 volt vacuum cleaners

Found this above a ceiling while doing other work, yes that is a 277 volt supplied 120 volt duplex with one side taped off and the other side marked 277 for 'safety'. :D

And yes is supplies the "220 volt" camera power supply.

Its a good thing I am not an electrician that believes every NEC violation in a building is my responsibility to fix. :)

Sounds like maybe the "220 volt" power supplies maybe don't last as long as they should either.

If I were even going to consider cheating like that I think I would at least use a 6-15 or 6-20 receptacle and not a 5-15 or 5-20.:eek:

The 7-20Rs are 277V. But what a cluster....

Saw a window unit AC at a restaurant the other day; it was a 240V unit with one blade twisted 90* to fit a 5-15R (with 240V supply), neutral wire on ground screw, ground floating, box not bonded, no mudring/RS cover and the receptacle not secured.
