i am currently doing a remodel on a major department store. the building is about 20 years old and this department chain has owned it since it was built. the only fire alarm currentlly in the store is smoke detectors and duct detectors. No horns or strobe or even a pull station. the store has been remodeled a few time over the years but was never required to install a fire alarm system other that what they have now. the remodel that i am working now they are adding a whole new system with horns strobes and pullstation . as each stage of the remodel is complete inspection are be called to make sure the county does not have a prolem with the public going back into the area that was just completed. the public bathrooms at this store was just completed and the electrical inspector failed it because there was no horn/strobe in the bathroom, the bathrooms never had a horn strobe but once the remodel is complete there will be one. is this common or is there some kind of special provision on this.

Re: for a inspector

if the bathrooms are now open to the public they need to comply with the new code requirements which means horn/strobe ----if he were to approve this area now - without code requirements the public would not be protected and thats how things get overlooked in remodels..........
