Ford C Max Hybrid EV charger

I have a Ford EV charger that brings in the red fault light when plugged in which prevents output of the 12VDC at the charge terminals. I have taken it apart but don't see any obvious damage. Has anyone ever had problems with their EV chargers whether Ford or any other make of vehicle?

If it’s an EV charger, it doesn’t put out 12 volts. Cannot see the input plug, but the wire size looks like it is a 120 volt slow charger. All it puts out is 120 volts A/C, which the EV recognizes, and sets the charge accordingly. If it has a fault light, it may be the receptacle is not grounded, or the polarity is reversed. The instructions should say which.

I’m not sure about that particular EVSE, but other Ford units show red for either missing EGC, or an internal fault.

I agree with Hillbilly - the manual should tell you what the red light indicates.

Ok, thanks all. I did find out that I was plugged into an ungrounded outlet. But even when it was plugged in a grounded one it still showed the red LED. I need to find the owners manual but think it is an internal failure. I did check the proximity ckt operated by the plug handle lock and I do get the correct values of 150 and 480 ohms when lock is operated.

I’d double check to make sure the receptacle has an EGC. My daughter tried to charge at an Air BNB once and only one receptacle in the entire house had an EGC.

As I stated, the problem is not the receptacle.
