Is there an article that I might have missed that prohibits materials foreign to electrical system to pass through a cable tray? We are trying to propose a route for the cable ladder (horizontal) and the best route happens to be the location of vertical hanger rods that will support the ceiling. Thanks for any help.

Is the tray able to support that one wire?

Otherwise, relocate the lower end of the wire.

Thank you for your responses. In my case, these are 3/8 inch full threaded rods. But let's say in general, are we violating any article if we allow anything to pass through the cable ladder? Here is a link to the uploaded image of what's going to happen for our common reference: https://ibb.co/nz6j5QY

I haven't seen such installation and would like to avoid it, however, I can't find a reference article that will invalidate the design.

How far to the nearest ladder support on the other side of the offending rod (to the right in your pic)? If within ten feet, abandon the upper half of the rod, hang a length of strut from the two ladder supports, and hang the lower half of the rod from it.

Or, cut out the middle section of the rod, hang a horizontal piece of strut long enough to straddle the ladder from the upper part, hang a pair of rods from the ends, attach a second piece of strut from them below the ladder, and hang the lower rod.

In other words, create a window around the ladder. Kinda like cutting a load-bearing wall stud to put in a window, putting in a header supported by two jack studs that rest on the sill, which in turn rests on the lower piece of of stud (a.k.a a cripple).

To answer your question, we make it a standard for our cable tray supports to be 1500mm apart. So, doing the above would be a great alternative. However, I can already imagine my boss asking why do we even have to do all that if there's no violation committed.
