So I'm sure I'll catch a lot of flack for this as many of you are electricians and I'm a "office" guy...lol.

Anyway, I'm PM'ing a job where the foreman is an as$ho@!.

He constantly says, lay me off I don't care or I'm not going to another job..etc.

I had convo with him the other day and he got irritated and hung up the phone.

We had two owners in the company and one of them says he would have laid him off a long time ago. The other one have some weird allegiance to him and protects him no matter what. Our super has no real opinion on him. Two PM's here will not take him on thier jobs.

I think he is completely milking the job( He's 64 and ready to retire) and taking a lot longer than the work should. I've expressed this to the owners and super several times. Shouldn't my super be able to evaluate the work/progress and also have input???

This foreman just doesn't care at all. And the owner that backs him no matter what says to not pay attention to anything he says. IMO if someone conducts himself the way he does, basically expressing that he doesn't care that's a problem.

BTW it's only him and a apprentice on the job, which he is ok with.

Sounds like he has made the company lots of money in the past, but now is burnt out, and ready to retire. The owner is probably just letting it ride because of the previous loyalty, knowing it will be a temporary problem if he is retiring.

Think your right but then my job is now suffering.

Unfortunately all you can do is express your disgust with the owners. If you get a job based bonus well this old battle axe is taking money out of your pocket.

Nothing to do with you but I was a foreman for a long time and when my project manager, super, and the shop were really incompetent my attitude was similar to this guy's attitude.

So one thing that may play to your benefit is the old guy needs a younger jman under him otherwise he's not a real Forman and is just a well paid jman. You may find that things improve then becuase he may just not have the stamina he used to and is also getting senoritis with only a year left. Does he have an old apprentice that's topped out with you guys who'd like to work with him the last year he is for old tines sake?
