What do you use when replacing a light in a 2-story foyer?

I replaced one before using a step-ladder with a center ladder that went straight up, but that was dangerous.

Anyone have any solutions besides scaffolding?

Thank you.

Re: Foyer light

I rented a very high step ladder for Home Depot, it was a couple of years ago so I forgot how high, when I changed a fixture 2 stories up the cost of which I added to the bill. Although unpopular with the client there is a cost that's why the client is not doing it and hired you.

Re: Foyer light

The tallest stepladder we have is 12 feet. Even at that height the base is so wide and it is so unwieldy that you can't use it in most stairwells or residential foyers. There are Genie type lifts that are small, narrow and will go straight up but I wouldn't want to use one. :D

It all depends on what it is but in my opinion scaffolding is the safest way to go unless you can get a real lift in there.
