Has anyone replaced the inside of fpe panels in high rise buildings ? The panel is a riser panel with 2 other apts. using the same feed, for a total of 3 apts. The panel is a 12 circuit 100amp. Cat# r? 104-12 . uses na and nc breakers I called eaton ch and they said the panel dimenions were to small for an interior replacent. Any ideas on a fix ? Can't remove panel .

Turn the FPE panel back box into a junction box and install a new one next to it with a nipple. Have a panelboard manufacturer make you a cover for the old panel that is now a JB.

I think I miss read but is the panel in an apartment to feed 2 other apartments for a total of 3 but only the one has access to the panel?

I think I miss read but I don?t know.

Typically these old high rise panels had a gutter space on one side for the riser to pass through from floor to floor. Then a tap to feed the panel was installed at each level.

First we tried a panel builder, he suggested we use the box as a riser, and do just as you suggested, we were not able to nipple next to it, what we did was located a bos in the same room on another wall, which we feed with MC cable.

That's a viable option as well. You would just need to keep in mind the 10' or 25' tap rules when going across a room.

That may not be so simple with the riser passing through the panel going in the bottom and out of the top. If the intention is to leave the existing riser then removing the old back boxes may be extremely difficult.

We can't remove the panel because as stated in other post the riser goes through the panel to other apts. panels. There were a couple of good ideas given and we will look to see which one will work the best.
Thanks for all the help.
