If you have been an IAEI member for three years you qualify for a free code book. Its not well known, but if so give a call, I got mine in a couple of days, via USPS with return receipt signature.

I'm curious to know from the folks here who are IAEI members... is there any benefit to a regular electrician being an IAEI member? It is my understanding that pretty much anyone, member or not, is welcome to attend the local meetings.

I was a member but let my renewal lapse. They had some of the best classes I've attended. Note to self. Renew.

I was a member for a number of years when they're magazine was actually good, the code book was free, and the member ship was cheap. IMO the only part of that statement that's currently true is the code book part. Regarding the meetings, I have no opinion since I never attended one. But having said all of that I'm currently considering rejoining again as an associate member.

The $90 membership fee is not just for the magazine. It never fails to amaze me how some people are so short sighted. The magazine is part of the membership.

The IAEI meetings are only as good as the people who run & attend them. Our Chapter went through a very tough time the last 1 1/2 year, but in the last 3 months with hard work and determination we have finally started to get back on track.

As Marc stated, there are some Chapters that allow nonmembers to attend.

I am only an associate member so don't have to be inspector member.
The cost of membership is very reasonable. The meetings are worth attending, esp as UL is always there, inspectors, savy contractors, IE those in the know attend...
To get the book call the Texas office and if you have enough points, IE member for three years you qualify.

I ride up sometimes with an inspector-member, and attend as a non-member. They even feed me dinner before the meeting along with all the regular members. Everyone's friends at dinner, then they're arch-enemies during the meeting.

My point was don't just join for the magazine and the free code book. IMO the magazine isn't as good as it was 10 years ago. From what I've heard the meetings are pretty informative. They should be the best reason to become a member. If you don't plan on attending, save your money.

I agree on the meetings and magazine. The magazine has a lot of fluff. Same as the IAEI analysis, an entire page with a full color photograph, adds little but paper.

Yeah, when I first joined in 1992 it was solely because I loved the magazine. But over the years it became more and more about regional meetings and less about what I needed, code interpretation. But I still might revisit them someday.
