Looked at a garage job this afternoon.

2nd garage is being built between existing garage and small tree, so service needs to be moved (notice locates):

I started following the locate marks to find the transformer (I will need to install a temp service). It took me a while:

I've seen the poco clean up violations like that lickety split with chainsaws.

Fun to watch too.

"Sorry folks, Those trees gotta go."

I've seen where they've shut the building down because the landscapers stick a bunch of stuff around them. It's actually quite fun to watch the POCO and the owners go at it. It's amusing sometimes.

I'm sure if I get this job, the trees will be an issue.

So the temp power is for the excavating of the new garage? As in the laterals are in the way?

You have to eliminate the meter and re-feed the house before that happens?

Yep. You can see the locates for the phone & power in the first photo. I'll need to temp feed the existing service while the garage is being built, then do a meter-main on the garage when it's done.

Hand dig the service and phone /cable back to safe distance from footing excavation then temp refeed all services until new structure is built. New meter main and closest spot to move panel to wall. My first question would be where is the cesspool/septic system and Oil tank if underground??

Phone & cable is the teleco & cableco's problems. But that's exactly what is planned for the UG power feed. I hope to salvage enough to make it to the new meter/main without splicing, but if I need to splice it, so be it.

This may be Iowa, but cesspools are out of vogue now. No one heats with oil. We have natural gas & propane (Hank Hill would be proud!).

By me a 1000 gal underground fiberglass tank is not unusual. Imagine trenching through a full tank with a 4 ft blade of a ditchwitch in an environmentally sensitive area. If you have a small buisness you are imediately done stick a fork inn you. 100k is about what that cleanup would cost.

isn't that insured & bonded is for?

Nope. Insurance is not an excuse to be careless. And Trenching/Digging insurance won't cover you unless you performed a proper locate.

Those don't appear to be UL listed bushes.

Do they need to be?

Doesn't that poor dog look lost without his favorite tree? If he knows you're responsible, you're gonna have a wet tire every time you park your truck there.

HO did it at the, um, let's just say, 'urging' of the POCO. When I looked at it last week, I commented that they may just show up with a chainsaw anyway, so HO did a pre-emptive strike.
