frig near hot tub

I say bond. The same issue occurs on pool decks where a metal screen enclosure is more than 5' away except that the door opens toward the pool and encroaches in the 5' zone. In these cases, we require bonding.

I would say the same applies to your case.

Wife open the frig to get a beer. Jim reaches out (while in the tub) and grabs door to get one also...... Hmm

Why didn't you move that dang tub further away--like on the neighbors property somewhere?

How did you know she drinks beer, you been peeking ?

Actually that is the thought that i was thinking.Someone might even hand a beer to person in tub.Lets see if we got this right.Person touches frig door, hand holding can,can touches hand of person in tub.I just wasnt sure where nec draws this line.

The least you could do is to use glass bottles instead of metal cans.

Why not just bond it and also run the fridge on the GFCI circuit and that should able cover that one.

Merci,Marc

Being its basically outside and that near the tub the gfci was not even an option.I want things to be ID 10 T proof.

Is it an outdoor spa and hottub?

Look over 680.26(B)(5) ( Part II of 680 ) and tell me is your fridge "FIXED" and then determine is it outside.......

(5) Metal Wiring Methods and Equipment. Metal sheathed
cables and raceways, metal piping, and all fixed
metal parts that are within the following distances of the
pool
, except those separated from the pool by a permanent
barrier, shall be bonded.

(1) Within 1.5 m (5 ft) horizontally of the inside walls of
the pool
(2) Within 3.7 m (12 ft) measured vertically above the
maximum water level of the pool, or any observation
stands, towers, or platforms, or any diving structures

So you venture over to 680.42 and it says comply with Part I and II of 680 for "Outdoor Installations"....and I assume your receptacle is GFCI and complies.....so last I checked a fridge is not a fixed piece of equipment.....what do ya think fella...;)

Notice the Bonding requirements for the "Indoor Spa/Hottub" via 680.43(D) dont say FIXED equipment....it says all metal surfaces....but the outdoor application does not have the same verbiage.

So it makes a difference...is it Indoors or Outdoors...?

Paul this is an outdoor tub and I would call a fridge fixed in this situation. Jim isn't going to move it so it is fixed. :D

No definition of fixed that I can see. One would think it is either fastened or permanently wired base on article 250.134 title...

250.134 Equipment Fastened in Place or Connected by Permanent Wiring Methods (Fixed) — Grounding.

I would rather go the extra mile. All the wire mesh and ac ,frig, washer ,dryer ,lockers have been ran #4 to bond them today.I would dought electric cares if they are fixed or not.I want to think i did all i could. This was not a major cost and i feel better.I sent myself a bill LOL.Often nec goes too far but sometimes not far enough. How do we price a life ?When we have known hazard water/electric/people we need go extra mile.I lost a niece over a hott tub by drowning when hair got into drain, once is enough, wasnt my tub but things can happen.

In my opinion, fixed requires some type of physical attachment, size or weight does not make an item fixed.
