The Defense Department said that there are nearly 40,000 structures and housing units in the Iraqi theater and that "we believe there was adequate oversight of the KBR contractors."

"In the past 12 months, KBR performed over 2 million service or work order repairs across the theater," the Defense Department said.

It went on to say that the Pentagon has "no information" that personnel with Defense Contract Management Agency, which handles the KBR contract, was aware of the 2004 Army bulletin or that they "failed to take appropriate action in response to unsafe conditions brought to our attention."

Halliburtonwatch.org said:
Halliburton's revenue from LOGCAP (or Logistics Civilian Augmentation Program) increased from $320 million in the second quarter of 2003 to over $2 billion in the fourth quarter of 2003. As of May 2004, the federal government had spent nearly $5 billion on LOGCAP since KBR became the sole contractor in 2001. The original value of LOGCAP in Iraq was estimated at over $4 billion, but the value of the contract is now over $8 billion and could reach $18 billion. These values can change as war conditions change. The $8 billion figure for Iraq does not include KBR's LOGCAP business in dozens of other countries around the globe, including Guantanimo Bay, Cuba, where it constructed the prisons used to house prisoners from Afghanistan.

This to me is just sick... 8 BILLION dollars? And they are electrocuting our servicemen? Cheney should be forced to shower over there...

I finally was able to watch the whole link. This is unbelievable. Our men and women are over there fighting tooth and nail, risking it all, and one of ours gets electrocuted from a problem that was noted 10+ years earlier on our U.S. base?????

This is beyond sick. I won't get into politics for good reason, but our men and women should have the same protection as the big suits here to say the least. I'll leave it at that. I hope KBR goes down hard:mad:

To be fair KBR is no longer part of Halliburton. But it doesn't excuse their shoddy electrical work nonetheless. It really makes you wonder why the military doesn't handle their own power needs anymore.

Because the accountants decided, it will be cheaper. So what is the difference if they are dead from a bullet or current?

On the other hand, I wonder how many 'locals' are hired as 'electricians' and whether it is a construction error or intentional sabotage?

You have the wrong avatar for that quote, you need the one where Dr. Evil is biting the nail on his pinky finger and saying "8 Biiiillllllion dollars"

Is this a left wing hate Bush and Cheney blog or should we be discussing how this serviceman was killed and try to prevent this from happening again.

I am not "left wing," quite the opposite actually, but the widespread use of outside contractors to do things the military should (and used to) be doing bothers me quite a bit.
