I decided to expend our garage.
It is single garage. Panel board is located on outside wall. In order to make it bigger I need to move the outside wall, where is located 200amp panel/meter base. That include all homeruns.
How do you do it w/o lossing your power in house?
It is long project.
What about moving service entrance?
Costs???

We are thinking about having outside hot tub.
any ideas bout cost??

thank you

Re: from one to double garage...panel move, cost?

Move the entire service to the other outside wall. Since you are an electrician, you can figure YOUR best method of moving the homeruns.
Check with your POCO about moving the service drop--assuming it's overhead. As for cost, since you are an electrician, you would really only have materials, now wouldn't you!

Re: from one to double garage...panel move, cost?

the service entrance is underground, so even if I moved the panel to other outside wall I still have deal with underground service.

Re: from one to double garage...panel move, cost?

Actually, relocating the underground lateral is stepping into the POCO's turf. You may want to call them and find out what they require and what they will charge (if anything) for the rehook.

Re: from one to double garage...panel move, cost?

Aw geez...build the new service where you need it, temp from the old, have POCO energize the new and disconnect the old at the same time.

Re: from one to double garage...panel move, cost?

I think it is a little more complicated that what tshea is saying. The steps he has suggested are right on but you will need to move each circuit over to the new panel once energized. Basically the length of time this job will take depends on how far away you plan to put the panel. The farther away the more time will be involved in moving your existing circuits over to it. POCO will definitely charge to move the underground feeder. They will treat just like a brand new service because the underground pipng will have to be moved to accomplish this. You will lose power at least for a short time while you move the existing circuits over to the other panel. Just start with the plan that tshea laid out and go from there.

Re: from one to double garage...panel move, cost?

Every power company has there own rules and ways of doing things.

I would not make a move at all before talking with your power company to find out who does what.

Some power companies trench, pipe and pull the entire underground, other power companies have the customer do all that.

Only your local guys can tell you the deal for your area.

Check the OP profile. It was electrician on Sat. Today it's coco
The original question asked for cost on his own house.
My guess is he's a DIYer

Re: from one to double garage...panel move, cost?

I have received a PM from the originator of this thread. I am assured that he is an electrician, and that "coco" is the name of his company. Accordingly, I am re-opening this thread, with an apology for the delay and the inconvenience.

What does NC stand for?

Then I take it that your company is not an Electrical business.

Re: from one to double garage...panel move, cost?

Thank you all, for your advice.
But there is a another option. What about split service, 200Amp meter combo? finish garage w/o concrete, install new meter combo, call POCO-cut service cable and connect it.
No need to move panel back and forth.

Thank you all again
