I am an estimator and really need some help with this area such as the control, monitoring/status, purge dampers, how fire alarm ties in. Does anyone know of good literature/courses or someone can give me an overview. Thanks very much.

I would think that the FACP would have a addressable module to trip the activation.

You the dampers may have limit switches that monitor position. Those could be tied into supervisory modules.

The dampers I have seen installed were 24 VDC and had to have a back up power supply. Of course then that has to have an relay and a monitoring module of its own.

Personally I would want to see the manufacturers specs before costing it out.

NFPA-72, this is the book right here! I believe you have the accounting part down.

2010, right off the press!
But as earlier said, you'll have to account for all the various devices and the linear runs and how each is wired, series Vs parallel, zones, etc.

Once you get over the paradox of DC being involved, I think you'll be fine...

I would think that all the info that you need is right in the prints, Electrical, Mechanical, &

FA. Mech. supply and install, Elec. to supply what ever power, FA to tie it into the FACP.

It's a pretty loaded question.
Things that apply

1. Building classification
2. Fire / Smoke damper or Fire Damper
3. Complete Smoke Detector Coverage ? See #1

Each Building classification comes with unique Fire and Life Safety guidelines as well as your local Authority having jurisdiction.

Should be on drawings or in specs. This is typical of what I see:

Smoke damper installed by HVAC with a 120VAC power source.

Smoke detectors or duct smoke detectors activate a relay or an addressable relay module that tells the damper to close. Duct detectors will also shut down the air handler.

Some dampers have a limit switch to allow monitoring of damper open/close. This could wired to a non-alarm zone or connected to an addressable monitor module(s).
