With the soaring cost of Fuel prices how are you guys dealing with it..Since we know the price market is so unstable how long do you let your bids stand..Do you leave a clause stating a fuel percentage variation so as to leave room for travel costs..

We have estimated fuel costs for the year based on projected fuel cost increase this cost is in the bid along with all overhead, material is subject to change so we hold bids for 10 working days.

Depends on the type of job. Some projects will indicate in their specifications that you are to hold your price for 30 to 60 days. Read that front end carefully. If the specifications don't indicate you can include a clause in your proposal that your pricing is good for how many ever days you want to hold your price.

I know you have seen distributor quotes that are good for only 24 hours, especially on wire. Why would you want to guess on that one? Copper has been a bigger variable than fuel. I limit the length of time that my pricing is good for to 5 to 10 working days.

Plus you already know that our fine State just increased your Gas Tax, so follow the advice of some of the experts and figure your fuel costs at $4.00 a gallon for the summer months when bidding now.

You can also try to negotiate a material and fuel increase into your contract, but I haven't had much luck on that one.
