Im on a ladder hanging a 250w MH fxtr on the side of a old barn built in 1934. Im putting in the reflector, have the lamp between the my knees holding it. Then a very poor looking horse that is between my ladder and my van desides to nugde and smell of my foot, which in returns startles me and I drop the lamp, and poof. Now Im picking up glass because I dont wont to kill the customers horse with digestive problems. So with 20 miles to the parts house and not another bulb on the van, I go the ranch house with hat in hand, and explain what happened. I start to tell this lady that I got horse bit really bad when I was young and it just startled me. Then She laughed really big and said........."That horse is 29 years old and has NO teeth"....So I said..."couldnt you hang a sign around his neck, so I would have known?"

The Cow is telling the Mule NEVER trust a horse. Remember Big Brown??

You know what they call a mule and horse cross....or did I get that right? I might have it backwards....:D

in the future, i'd have the customer put the horse in a stall before attempting any work; especially on a ladder. The horse could've been startled at any minute, knocking you off the ladder and potentially trampling you. I always have customers put their animals away before I start work. I pulled up on a job last month and sat in the truck for a couple of minutes working on something. When I opened the door, I didn't realize there were two bulldogs waiting on me. I got bit three times and had to beat one of them in the face with my kleins to make it let go. Pissed was not the word to describe my mood at that point, as I'd already informed the lady to have them put away when I got there; "oh but they never bite".

Same thing goes for inside pets as well.

Some dogs are as big as a small horse. Even if you're two steps up on a 4' ladder....

this is the third trip Ive made to this barn....the first two times before they had a beautifull paint inside in the stall....but this time this one was in the lot. The owner said she didnt think the poor thing would make it through the winter....

As for those dogs.......That lady would have been looking for another electrician if that would have been me...I dont put up with that cr_p

You guys have a great evening, Im hitn the sack

mule,
I've got 2 good ones for you from my young invicible days. While working as an engineer for a phone company I was designing a new line across a farmers pasture. All I saw was some cattle so I decided to go ahead and cross the gate and starte wheeling off my measurements I wasn't in the field 20 minutes when the farmer shows up very excited because he has a few 2 ton buffalo in the field that are very territorial....
After a few years of learning I figured out that if I pull up to someones residence and roll down the window the dog (if they have one) will come up to the truck (ford ranger) and show his true colors, you know barking jumping on the truck or setting down wagging his tail. This worked fine until one day I pulled up rolled down my window and started getting all my info together not really paying attention until a dog/horse licked the side of my face while standing flat footed on the ground!!! Luckily it was a very nice dog....

Once was working in a shop on a farm. I was 20' up on extension ladder, no one was around that i KNEW of. All of a sudden the ladder was shaking, bouncing. scared the crap out of me, i looked down to see a HORSE, a actuall live walking equine animal, with its front two hooves on the second rung of my ladder!!! Turns out the owner had a "pet" horse who was allowed to wander around the yard/farm like a DOG!!! When I asked the owner about it, she replied that the horse was always interested in what ever might be going on, and was just currious what I was doing!!! The horse gets tied to a tree when i work there now:D :D ;)

I have a way with animals that amazes many people. I haven't run into any horses yet, but I do meet a lot of dogs and cats. I have never met a dog I couldn't approach, unless it was just to scared. Cats are more diverse.

My mechanic, who works at his home, has a Rotweilier that is kept penned when anyone is in the yard. The first time I went there, he wouldn't let me near the dog, so on the second visit, I didn't ask.

I approached the cage, and he never even barked. I let him smell the back of my hand, then I petted him, and he licked my fingers, and we were buddies. My mechanic was floored. He couldn't believe it. PJ still cant approach the dog, though.

Another customer, a couple who are both accountants who work at home in the sticks, have a pair of large shepherds, and nobody can get near them, moreso the male . . . except us. When we go there, they say "It's the people we don't have to put the dogs up for."

Another one was a landlord I know who had a tenant with a window AC circuit issue; blown fuse, it turned out. When in the apartment, I saw a small black cat run past me. I called it over by wiggling my fingers and making that "pss-pss-pss" sound.

It came over to me, sniffed my fingers, I rubbed its head and back, picked it up, laid it on its back cradled in my arm, and rubbed its tummy. The girl said "I can't believe you're doing that; I can't even pick up my cat like that!" Like I said, I have a way with animals.

Now people, that's a different story! :D
