Fused neutral.

Location
NE (9.06 miles @5.9 Degrees from Winged Horses)
Occupation
EC - retired
We all know at one time, in Knob & Tube, fusing the neutral was SOP.
Having lunch with another retired EC, he commented it was common for the Neutral fuse to blow before the Hot and it was to be expected.

We are both to old to get into which of us is suffering from HUA syndrome but I don’t remember the neutral fuse blowing any more often than the other.

I certainly don’t know why it would be expected and never did.

Thoughts or remembrances?

Old electrician's tale.

When the neutral was fused it also typically was not grounded.

In the distant past, HAM radio operators often fused the Neutral in their DIY transmitters.
