Hello, I may have a job wiring a pool heater and was wondering if I should use a fused or non-fused disconnect, any preferences? Also, would anyone recommend protecting this circuit with a GFI breaker even though the code doesn't require it? Thanks.

Re: Fused or non-fused disconnect

If proper sized overcurrent protection is provided at the branch circuit source, a fused disconnect at the unit won't serve too much purpose. It also can't hurt.

GFCI protection is another consideration that probably won't serve much purpose but can't hurt.

If the customer is willing to pay for all the extras, why not?

Re: Fused or non-fused disconnect

There are likely folks on the forum that have seen or installed a lot more pool water heaters than I have, but the half-dozen or so I've inspected called for GFCI in the manufacture's instructions.
