I have a 62 KVA, 480 volt, single phase, 50% duty cycle spot welder that the transformer shorted out in yesterday. I had the disconnect on the welder fused at 80 amps with a FLSR Littelfuse, class RK5, dual element, time delay, current limiting fuse. When the transofrmer shorted in not only opened these 2 fuses but it also went back to the main switch gear and open and 1000 amp Ferraz Shawmut A4BQ1000, current limiting, class L fuse. Now I am questioning if I have the right fuses in the disonnect on the welder. They opened but not in time to catch the fault before it made it to the main switch. I am concerned becasue I have many spot welders in my facility and I what to provide the best protection possible without shutting the facility down to change out a 1000 amp main fuse. Can someone help me ID a better fuse.
