I just had some work stolen from me by a very small general contractor. I was working on a site (doing a small job for a customer that called me directly), and the general was there building a shed (Note: Milking the customer?seen him and his helper take two breaks in a 30 min period?after the customer left). The general approached me and said: You do great work, can we have your card, so we can use you if we have some work requiring your services>>>Obviously we exchanged business cards. Well, later I was asked by the property owner to give him an estimate to wire the shed. Note: The customer had planned for his son to wire the shed?saying his son was good at doing electrical work?they just needed me for this small project. Well, I immediately sent him an estimate (Note:Some of my estimates are pretty detailed) to wire the shed. I called him to follow-up, and guess what? He took my estimate, and gave it to the general, who in return stole my work. The general told the customer he could do it for much cheaper. HUN???? Is this the same general that said he would like to recommend me for projects? They set me up (Note: I?m aware of the game, but I trusted the customer because he gave me a small job. But when it came to the bigger project, they used me)!!!! Point: We need to start cracking down on these unqualified contractors stealing our work!!! I see a lot of HVAC companies stealing work. I normally find out after showing-up for a project at a repeat customers house?finding they have a new heat pump. I ask: How did the feed and circuit get installed. They explain: The HVAC company said they could do it. Guess what: In three instances, they ran #10 NM-B outdoors<<<obviously unqualified!!!
