Is there a recommended demand factor that can be used when circuiting more than one garage door opener or should each opener be placed on a dedicated circuit? I have 12 multi-car garages with 4 to 6 individual stalls in each garage.

Re: garage door opener

The very few garage door openers that I?ve seen have all been plug & cord connected. So we are talking about receptacle outlets. The basic question is therefore, ?Do these count as being part of the ?general lighting load calculations? of 220.3(A), or must they be counted as separate, dedicated outlets at 180 VA each?? I think they must be added to the load calculation as separate loads. As such, they don?t get a demand factor of their own. If you are using the 220.32 ?Optional Method-Multifamily Dwelling,? the garage door opener outlets will be included in the demand factors given in Table 220.34.
