Do I need a listed wall mounted control device for an attached garage at or near the door that enters garage from the house?
You do need a light in the garage whether the switch is near the door or not doesn't matter but why wouldn't you do so. Also if the garage has a standard door to the outside (not overhead garage doors) then you need a light to illuminate that doorway on the outside.Do I need a listed wall mounted control device for an attached garage at or near the door that enters garage from the house?

I would say yes.Does the garage door opener light switch which controls the garage door opener light count as a listed wall switch. It is located at the door going into the garage?
maybe pushing the rules a little, but the GDO is a fastened in place appliance and would be only reason I myself would consider it as possible replacement for a more conventional lighting outlet.Does the garage door opener light switch which controls the garage door opener light count as a listed wall switch. It is located at the door going into the garage?
There are some with a separate switch on the wall control to turn the light on, and I believe it stays on indefinitely if turned on with that switch. Might automatically go back to auto operation next time the door is moved though. That is what I thought was being asked about back in post 5Not sure if it holds true for every power garage door, but mine, even if door is open, if you walk across the threshold of door it will trip and turn on light of the garage door opener. But mine, the garage also has a switch at both the garage doors, one coming in from outside and one at house entry from the garage. I wouldn't want it any other way personally.
It does need a wall mounted control device if it is the only light or if all are on same control that are in the garage.
The rule doesn't really specify where the switch must be located, could put it somewhere in a third floor bedroom if you wanted and would be code compliant.
The rule for switches for stairways is more specific about switch location(s)
That’s how mine works as wellNot sure if it holds true for every power garage door, but mine, even if door is open, if you walk across the threshold of door it will trip and turn on light of the garage door opener.
