We have recently completed a warehouse addition for a local manufacturing company. The AHJ is classifying the space as a "Garage" witch in the 2017 code requires all 15 & 20 amp 125v rec. be GFCI protected. I say it is not a Garage , but I am interested what the members opinion is. Thanks in advance for your advise .

Does it meet the NEC definition of a garage?

"Garage. A building or portion of a building in which one or
more self-propelled vehicles can be kept for use, sale, storage,
rental, repair, exhibition, or demonstration purposes."

I think if you're in Massachusetts, you should be careful using the word "witch". People could get killed.

I would say if the building permit is for constructing a warehouse addition then you should be safe to call it that as well

Bob52,

What Construction [ i.e. - Building Code ] Code was the building
constructed under ?

If the addition is used to store materials, then it might be an S-2,.
..an S-1 or possibly a Hazard type of structure [ Storage - Low
Hazard, Storage - Moderate Hazard or Storage - High Hazard ].
If the addition will be used to expand the manufacturing process(es),
then it might be an F-1 or an F-2.

Need more info from you... The Building Code is supposed to
define \ classify all spaces within a structure.
