It was told to me that I couldnt put my recessed gfi receptacle into the garage portion block that belonged to someone else ;the part were I was going to put it was solid concrete. The way the enty was layed out the only safeway I could put this GFI In.I dont want to damage the building structure,chipping out a hole for 4"x2" hole then penetrating for the wire.Did I do the right thing or not.

If the block wall you put it in is not the owners then you are trespassing.Why nit surface mount with bell box on owners wall ?

Butch, Ahh the joys of duplexes.
I hope it doesn't happen, but this could be a case of where your liability insurance comes into play, or atleast some expense to you in removing the device and repairing the others wall.
