Hi
Is there a code article that would determine the location of the garbage disposal switch? Above the sink or in the cabinet?

Thanks
Charlie

It could be on the sink....

Air switch.

;)

They've got these cool fiber-optic switches now that are real problem solvers. The appearance on the countertop is only about the size of a dime. Good for prep sinks in islands with no space for a snap switch and an air switch would be ugly. That said, "batch feed" disposals are good for where you don't have a switch too. They turn themselves on.

I suppose this would be where you would not want to chase your wedding ring down the drain.

Code wise the switch that is used as the controller can be anywhere, could be in the master bedroom.

The required disconnecting means must be within sight.

The required disconnecting means must be within sight of the motor.

I'm curious now...remember who makes those Cool fiber optic switches?

That sounds like a code proposal I sent in one time about switch placement . Code panel stated switch placement was a design issue.

The interesting question here is if you have your head under the sink while working on the disposal is the switch on the counter within sight. I have been turned down for that reason but it was on a hot tub, With your head inside the space you could not see the disco so I get red tagged.

No its not. But a switch under the counter isn't within sight either when you have your hand inside the disposal trying to get that wedding ring.

My (very quiet) 3 year old son made that very obvious to me one day.

Name withheld by request.
