Gas Fired, whole house Tankless Hot Water heater

I searched the forum as well as the FAQ & didn't see anything regarding this.
I"m wondering if you guys put these on their own 15A branch circuit? They couldn't draw much amperage, I don't think. I don't put a receptacle that an all gas stove plugs into, for its 120V loads on its own circuit. The gas tankless heaters come with a 120V cord/plug on them. I'll have a single receptacle in the garage, so no gfci issues.
Thanks for any help

PS: btw, does anyone know how many amps (or fraction of an amp, a gas stove draws? couldn't be much)... thx again...

I agree that it's likely they do not draw much current. If the unit is fastened in place you can use up to 50% of the 15 amp circuits' ampacity without requiring a dedicated circuit. If the unit draws 7.5 amps or less it can go on a shared 15 amp circuit, 10 amps or less and it could go on a 20 amp shared circuit.

If this is a Rannai I think the manufacture calls for a dedicated cir.

I must admit if this is true I have hooked up many Rinnais without a dedicated cir. To require a dedicated cir. for this unit would be like asking for a dedicated circuit for a gas range ignitor. It would be absurd.

Lets not get panicy here. I said "I believe" and now I'm thinking otherwise.

Dennis, you don't strike me as the kind of guy that would one without reading the specs. first.

To be honest I have never read the specs on any of them, just the info on the unit. I never saw a reason to read them .

Most of the units I have seen will require it's own - for some reason they have some larger units have pretty hefty fan forced blowers/exaust. And many smaller ones that dont by code need one due to amperage, say they need one anyway...

I have connected lots of them and it is hard to see why you would need a deticated circuit because even with a fan the draw is less then 1 amp. In most units I have seen they run about 30-60watts.

Shut off switch

Shut off switch

Is there any requirement for intalling a shut-off switch (for the electrical feed) in close proximity to a tankless gas water heater? What if the tankless heater is going to be located on an exterior wall?
