Going to be running power to a newly installed gas fireplace.

HVAC contractor is adamant about not having a switch installed for the unit. He says they’ve never put switches on any of the installs and he’s never had a failed inspection.

I feel it needs a disconnect means . It’s a hardwired install, no cord and plug.

Electrical requirements are kind of vague. It states “less than 12 amps” at 115V.

Is it common practice to just wire direct to the unit?

.

All I can offer is that when we had a gas fire insert installed at our previous house, the electrician hard-wired its fan and igniter to the load side of a nearby receptacle outlet. He also replaced that receptacle with an AFCI receptacle (he said it was a Seattle city code requirement). There was no separate disconnecting means, and it passed the electrical inspection.
