On Monday I have job at a SFD to relocated three switches. Just this morning I received an e-mail from the GC asking me to run the Low Voltage line for the Fireplace starter. The GC wants the starter switch in with the other switches I'm moving.

I will be installing a divider to separate the LV wiring. My question is do I connect the LV, thermostat size, wire to a standard SP switch?

As always, thanks in advance

That is what we do here only I usually have it in a separate enclosure. Standard sp switch is all that is needed.

I always put it in a separate box simply because there were no other switches near the fireplace but I don't see a reason not to put it in the same box.

I agree-- there is no reason for a separate enclosure other than you never know what they may use in the future. I always make sure I communicate with the subs so there are no issues or surprises at trim out.

I did not make it to the job until today. I have had to move the existing switches about 20' from the wall near the fireplace.

I found out today that I could not run the Starter LV to the new switch location. I was told that the Starter switch could not be further away that 10' from the Fireplace.

No big shakes though, the Fireplace guys said they would take care of a remote starter of some sort.

You learn something new every day.

I just provided 120 power to the right hand side of the fireplace for the ignitor to be powered from aand is controlled by a remote battery powered hand held unit.
