I have a direct vent furnace and direct vent hot water heater, I wired them on the same circuit and have a carbon detector on it as well. Is there any code reason the furnace and hot water heater can’t share the circuit? This is in MA and we are on the current code cycle

Not sure about the Mass amendments but the NEC would not allow it.

equipment other than fixed electric space-heating equip-
ment shall be supplied by an individual branch circuit.
Exception No. 1: Auxiliary equipment, such as a pump,
valve, humidifier, or electrostatic air cleaner directly asso-
ciated with the heating equipment, shall be permitted to be
connected to the same branch circuit.
Exception No. 2: Permanently connected air-conditioning
equipment shall be permitted to be connected to the same
branch circuit.
