Hello,

I have a gas heater that I want to shut off during a fire alarm, and it's controlled by a local thermostat. Can I just splice an addressable relay module into the thermostat wiring to cut the signal and shut the heater off? Any tips would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Awesome, thanks.

I was told by the HVAC guy that it needs to be shutdown, I'm not sure if it's by preference or necessity.

If you want the fan to shut down the same time as the alarm, you would need to put the

module at the secondary side of the control transformer. If you open the t-stat wiring and

while on 'heat' the fan will continue to run until the temp. sensor opens the fan relay and

that could be a minuite or two. FYI.

That is what I do unless the unit has factory fire alarm shut down terminals and they are becoming more common.

Oh, good point! This lovely unit has a line voltage thermostat, a low voltage control transformer for the fan (which specifically cannot be used for thermostat power - factory instruction) and no factory terminals for shutdown. So would I need 2 modules (I guess most of these come with 2 relays anyway) for this situation?
