Recently we had the plumbing contractor propose to install the gas booster pump control panel and pressure sensor in the Main electric room. This would require gas piping to be installed in the electric room. I suggested that this not be done because the introduction of the gas piping into the room with the switch and control panel could constitute a hazardous location and require all the equipment in that room to be explosion proof. The control panel and switch come in explosion proof enclosures as well. The gas booster rep thought it wouldn't be a problem. In the end all gas piping and the switch were installed in another area. was I correct in this thinking??

Re: Gas in an electric room

Is it better that gas not be present in an electrical room? Probably. Would it have been a Code violation? Too many unknowns to be sure, but probably not. Where I live the power companies would not allow the installation you mention because they don't allow foreign systems in a dedicated electrical room. If it had been a gas heater for the room it would be allowed.
