Has anyone installed a outlet for one of these units? I have a customer that purchased one and the sales rep has told me that he needs a 120v outlet on the inside of the existing fireplace. I asked if the area will get hot? sales guy says no. It would be mounted on fireplace side wall down low and the insert sits in front of the outlet. I'm thinking that I will need to drill hole through hearth floor with a EMT sleeve into metal box, fed with romex from basement. Any experiences or recommendations would be appreciated??

I have done the same kind of install you described but for a pellet stove insert. My install was in a basement so I had to come through the side of the fireplace, emt into a 1900 box.

The model I am familiar with : Your romex goes through a connector ( Arlington black button,

T & B 3201 1/2 ) or similar. There is a handy box that comes with unit. Romex to handy box,

install recptacle. The blower just plugs in. A L/V switch to control gas. The handy box is part of the unit &

is mounted down low. No problem with heat.

The unit that the sales guy sent a picture of has a 15amp 125v cord on it. How did you access the hearth area? I can hammer drill a hole down into basment and run a piece of EMT through masonary with a change over conn below and box above, is what I am thinking of? The unit has a blower on it and the sales guy says the area behind the insert does not get hot enough to cause concern for the rec and cord.

Your on the right track with what you are planning and it does not get that hot behind the insert.
