Re: Gas meter location
Commonwealth Edison [Exelon], has filed with the Illinois Commerce Comission, a document called
Information and Requirements for the Supply of Electrical Service ; their rule book. If you refer to page 41 of theis document, you will find that under Section VI-Metering, part (6.14) states that "Metering equipment shall not, for example, be installed over, under, or adjacent to the following:......Natural Gas Meter {see note)". "Note: Metering equipment must maintain a 3 foot minimum clearance from a nutural gas meter". Further part (6.17) states "Metering equipment shall not be installed within 3 feet of a ges meter, gas valve, or disconnected gas fitting." "Metering shall not be installed in areas with a corrosive or explosive atmosphere".
It is suprising how many people in the industry, in the area being served by CECO, are unaware of the existance of theis publication. As an inspector, I cannot approve connection for service unless it also complies with this rule book, irespective of compliance with electrical code.
I hope this helps.
