where does a gas meter need to be grounded. In this case it is like 60 feet from box and under car port with concrete surounding it. There is a line that runs to the furnace only 20 feet away. Can I ground there or does it have to be a certain distance from the meter?

Re: Gas Meter

Gas pipe is "other" piping and can be bonded to at any convenient point.

Also, if the pipe isn't near any other building electric that might possibly fault to the pipe, its permissible to use the furnace's gnd as the bond (i.e. no seperate bond needed, the furnace controls ground is enough).

I'd inspect the furnace hookup before relying on this though - I've encountered some ungrounded furnaces where they were wired up with on the fly taped up splices where no gnd wire was hooked up.

Re: Gas Meter

250.104(B) permits the equipment grounding conductor of the circuit feeding a gas appliance to act as the bond for that system. So if you have a gas appliance that is electrically fed, and there is a proper connection of the equipment grounding conductor, you will not be required to install an additional bond to that piping system.
BTW The gas meter is not to be bonded, the piping is, I think Charlie will agree that he does not want to see a ground or other connection to the gas meter  .
