I have a goverment client in Orlando that is requesting the use of an HDPE pipe, designed for high pressure gas lines, for elctrical services to field devices. This client and myself are well aware of UL listed HDPE conduits that are available for this use, but the client seems to be insistant upon the use of the "gas pipe". Can some one direct me to a code section prohibiting this installation????

The Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority is the governing entity and the contract specifications state all materials shall comply with the latest standards of: UL, NFPA (this covers the NEC doesnt it?), NEMA, ANSI, ASTM and IEEE.Originally posted by bennie:

There is provisions to allow specific material for specialized purposes. This usually falls under the authority having jurisdiction.
Some projects, under engineering supervision, can be different than spelled out in the NEC.
Unless this can be shown to be a hazard, the government will likely prevail.
