Would a 600w 230v 1 phase gate motor work properly with a 208 volts????

This is very puzzling for me. I had another "electrician" tell me it would because of the 10% rule.

Re: Gate Motor

The single best source of authority will be the gate manufacturer's customer service department. Call them with the model number and ask.

Re: Gate Motor

If a motor was intended to run on 208 or 230 it would be labeled 208/230.
So if the 230 was 10% low that would be 207
Your supplying 208 if that was 10% low we have 187
now we have a motor wanting 230 and getting 187
not too kool

Re: Gate Motor

A motor designed for 208 v will be labled 200V. Motor have a lower name plate rating than the system voltage to allow for voltage drop.
Using a 230 V motor where a 200 V motor is required would result in low votage to the motor, and is a violation of 110.3(B)

Re: Gate Motor

Often i see AC units that are stamped 208/230.
That indicates the motor is fine on either along with 10% allowed by poco.If the motor is stamped 230 then it is not designed for 208.Doing so might just land you a bill for a new motor.
Chances are it will work on 208but can you afford that chance?
