GE Transformer 9T10K3894 75kva 600 volt to 120/208 volt is reasonably priced, but am curious how resilient they are compared to other brands ?

We usually end up with Hammond Transformers, but comparing prices and considering change….

I wonder if the big 4 (Eaton, Square D, Siemens, GE) actually make their own transformers, or if they just buy them from someone like Hammond who puts a special label on them?

DW worked for GE arranging shipping of large substation transformers in the 1990's. GE did make their own large transfomers at that time anyway, suspect they stiill do.

I would go with Square D as far as I am concerned they Are the best. I worked in a hospital and we needed a small 30 kva a GE transformer was ordered ,when it came in the electrical engineer said it wasn't even satisfactory for light commercial installations.

At one time this was a fairly common practice. While one factory made the actual windings and assembled the units, they used the end manufacturer's design and enclosures. This reduced setup costs and improved delivery time. It is still a routine practice for transformers over 500kVA.

I remember taking a prospective customer on a tour of a 'small transformer' plant back in the 80's. On that day all of the 45kVA units were bring shipped with a competitor's enclosure and label. If that customer had gone to the competitor's plant, on that day, they would have seen our 75kVA units being made.
