GEC and current

I know it's been discussed before but.....In a properly functioning system should there be current or voltage on the GEC? 120/240 single phase.

There's always some ground-fault current. Motors especially leak current to ground. Under normal conditions, ground leakage current should be well under 1ma.

If the GEC is connected to a metal water pipe that is part of a city water system there will always be some current flow. When I last checked my water pipe read about 2 amps.
