Does Grounded Electrode Conductor needs to be specific length per NEC 2014?

Yes, it needs to be long enough to reach the grounding electrode.

Well I have electric room in which i have trough with 4 disconnects. 4 disconnects have common electrode conductor in trough with gec going to steel bldg, gnd rods, encased electrode.
I am adding 5th disconnect in the electric room which is not close to trough commmon electrode conductor. It is approximately 4.5 feet away. However it is closer to bldg steel.
So i was wondering should i go back to trough common electrode conductor or attach gec to bldg steel. I.e. is their a length associated with GEC?

One last comment: It is Grounding Electrode Conductor, which is important to avoid confusion with the Grounded Conductor (often the neutral.)
