On some models, Generac wants them to be in a separate conduit.

I did see that notation in the installation manual.

Once inside the dwelling could romex be used...

14/3 romex for the N1, N2 and T1 terminals

and

14/2 romex for the 23, 194 and 0 terminals

The few I have done I ran in a separate conduit with 14 gauge wire-- because I had 14 awg.

I think Generac sends the prewired whip with 18. However i beleive somewhere in the code (to lazy to look it up) it state that the smalles size wire for a circuit is 14. t-! is a circuit as it powers the battery charger.
