Generac Generator starts when out in AUTO

we have a 13 kw Generac Natural gas standby generator. Today it suddenly started. There was no power failure. I turned it off, then put to AUTO and it started. Any ideas as to what is wrong? Serial number 4778749. It's a number of years old. I changed the oil and filter today and it was working fine when I closed it up. About 2 hrs later, it just started. We cannot put it to AUTO without it running.
