Would like to hear concerns or opinions about these packaged systems, a customer has asked for a proposal for a completely automatic standby generator system (7000 to 1200 watt) and the Generac Guardian system seems to be about the most popular and cost effective around here, but I am open to other brands. Thank you Mike

Installed over 40 and havent had one problem. Really nice piece of equipment and easy to install. Make sure the gas guy knows what hes doing when he hooks up either Lp or Ng

We are a Generac dealer and IMO their ATS's leave alot to be desired. They seem to have QC issues.

Plungers hanging up in coils, lugs not seated properly or cross threaded, which is a huge PITA, you have to remove the guts to get at the back. Have not seen this but have heard from our service guy that they have some issues transfering back to normal power. Don't know what that problem is.

I have installed well over a hundred of them, as Chris said, I have had two that the plungers jammed and melted the coil, three that the plunger jamed on, but was able to free. Watch for gas pressure and volume issues on natural gas, about 20% of the installs we had to upgrade to a 5# meter and install regulaters everywhere, expensive. With LP, install a two stage regulator to eliminate any problems. Also found that if it starts the first starting cycle, usually will not have any problems with the unit, if it doesn't start the first cycle, it usually will give trouble down the road with just not engine trouble, but electrical also, weird, but that seems to be common. Not really all that bad of a unit though for the money, would not use one though if it is critical that it works everytime. Good for residental though. Dealer support was poor for us too. You can buy one cheaper from the orange box, than you can buy being a dealer too.

Awesome info thanks, I noticed the one I was looking at came with a prewired transfer sw/panel but a stand alone tranfer switch that can be connected to a pony panel is also available, what would work best? The cust. has a wish list of things he wants connected depending on costs.
