Generator and heating loads

Hello,

I have a question regarding generators. I have a 900kW generator with 0.8PF. How much heating load can I connect to this generator 900kVA or 1125kVA (900/.8 = 1125)?

Thanks!

Mike

Keep in mind that the kVA is going to be less than or equal to the kW. You're on the right track, but multiply by PF instead of dividing. So, 900 kW * PF = kVA. You'll have to find the average power factor of your heating load.

You either weren't paying attention in class or you need to ask back for your tuition.:D

900kW the kVA is not important, as heating loads are rated in W.

kVA is always a larger number than kW.

IMHO.

If you have a 900KVA generator at 0.8PF, then you can support a 900*0.8=720KW heating load.

If you have a 900KW generator at 0.8PF, then this is a 1125KVA generator, and it can support a 900KW heating load.

Now I just don't see AC generators with KW unit ratings. Read that generator nameplate very closely, again, with lotsa light around.

I believe that you really have a 900KVA generator with a 0.8PF rating, and therefore this supports a 720KW heating load.

YMMV.

Hello Mike,

If you have a 900kw generator with 0.8pf then you can connect 900 kw heating load.

Good luck
