Generator and Solar

Search this forum for the topic. I often use google rather than the internal site search tool:

In a nutshell: unless the generator and inverter are specifically designed to work together, this is a bad idea which at best can cause the solar inverter or generator to shut down, and at worst will cause damage to one or the other.

I will be hooking up a generator to a main panel that has solar power to it. Will the solar adversely effect the generator when it crosses over to generator power.
I've done these, just make sure ATS is on load side of service feed from where solar ties in. Usually grid tied solar is designed with a disconnect that shuts down when grid power is lost just like a generator, don't want to feed power onto down grid lines. May need to move solar taps if you can't get ATS tapped between the solar and the main breaker.
Having solar in line with the genset can be a problem for the generator, most are not designed to work in conjunction with a solar system.

As mentioned, if the solar is a line side tap, you should be ok with the ATS or MTS downstream, so the generator can't trick the Solar into thinking the utility came back.
