Does the nec require generators and auto transfer switches to be piped with flexible conduit as a motor would?

It would depend on the application. If it is a residential or portable generator type installation, then generally speaking the answer is no.

Are you speaking of the claifornia-style connection and the cord which links the generator and the ATS. If so, and is residential, then no.

In reference to the generator, this a commercial generator feeding a restaurant and is perminently installed and will be supplying a 400 amp srevice.
Seems to me because of vibration it should have a flexible connection. Thanks

Its not an NEC requirement. Often LTFMC is used for ease of connection where there is no vibration or movement.

I've installed several large genset/ATS units. I have always ran LFMC to the genset for the last 3' or so because of vibration. For the ATS, I just run EMT straight to it.

It makes sense to run some sort of flex to the genset.

I just installed a 750kw Cat genset and in the manufacturers installation instructions it required a flexible connection. Ref. 110.3(B)
