I was contacted by a company that will be removing a diesel generator. They need someone to disconnect the generator from the conduits so they can lift it off the platform and place it on a trailer for removal. The building will be demolished. I am assuming all I need to do is lockout the generator and then cut off the pipes on both ends with a sawzall?

This is a first for me!

Make sure to disconnect the battery, I was demo, ing a supposed broken generator but when we cut the control wires the generator started. No one knew it even ran and where the control ckt was feed from

So the conductors will still connected after you're done with the Sawzalling? I would cut the conductors at the junction box on the wall and safe them off.

Thanks for the tip. This is exactly why I posted this. I assume there must be a OFF switch to disable the machine?

If typical standby generator with an automatic transfer switch, then there is possible control voltage that may be live, the "power conductors" should be dead as long as the generator isn't running.

Based on your pics, I'm going to assume one of the smaller conduits contains control wires, the other is most likely the circuit(s) for the block heater and battery charger.

Disconnect the gen batteries, lockout the block heater/battery charger circuit, verify the control circuit source is the gen. Over here the gens we deal with send 24v out and wait for a contact to close at the ATS to start the gen.

Once all this is done, then it's time for the sawzall.
