I have an FG Wilson back up genset at my house. Its brand new and the unit has never had any problems. Last night there was a lightening strike on a utility pole about 20 meters away. The genset will run fine for 30 seconds then throws the alarm: u L. Its a shutdown alarm.

It is producing around 23 volts L -N and 45 v L -L. Its a 230/400 v 3 phase machine.

I think its the exciter. Anyone else?

Please see attached data plate.

Did you field flash it to see?

I did not. But I got a service tech on the phone. The voltage being produced is above excitation voltage. He thinks the coil is fried. I am going to call him back when I get in front of the unit.

My experience, without knowing the details, would be diodes (and surge suppressors if present) in the generator followed by voltage regulator as most likely suspects.
