Generator exhaust requirements FL building code

Hi-
I was wondering if someone can assist me finding the FL building code for a standby generator exhaust to be at least 10ft away from any operable door or window? The reason why I ask is that the local AHJ as denied my recent permit because even though most generator manufacturer require 5ft clearance they say we need at least 10. BTW since the first of the year we have pulled at least 1/2 dozen permits on the same generator install without any issue.

Also does anyone have a way around this I can present to the building department that can represent my case that 5ft from either side of the generator is more then enough?

Ask inspector to cite you the code you are in violation of - which should have been done anyway.

If that don't work then demand to cite you code that is in violation.

If that don't work go to the supervisor.

You should have a right to know what the rule is and where it comes from. Hard to enforce rules if you don't have any.
